Bicycles have been worth their weight in gold
Some years ago MSP bought twenty bicycles for children going to Mpasa secondary school. Because there are so few secondary schools, learners often travel a long way to get there, some walking two hours each way each day. The bicycles have been expensive to maintain because the roads are so bad, but they have been worth their weight in gold for the help that they give to the children.
During MSP’s recent visit to Malawi, the school mentioned that they had a further twenty bicycles in a poor state of repair which had been given to the school by CAVWOC (Centre for Alternatives for Victimized Women and Children) but which the school itself could not afford to maintain. We have obtained estimates for repairing these bicycles as well, but are awaiting further funding to make these repairs possible.
